The Accident…

…everyone is fine…

I'm a Junior Officer!

My Junior Officer Sticker!

On the way to school with Daddy (Mummy was at home working), about a minute from the house, we were stopped at a red light when the lady behind us accelerated into the back of us.  She hit us medium hard and I was securely strapped into my car seat and Daddy was wearing his as well.  Daddy checked on me first – I was ok, but startled – then called 911 to report the accident and two police cars came.  I got a junior officer sticker and got to tour the back of the police car…I was a little shy and didn’t want to check out the front seat.  Hopefully that is the last time I’ve ever in the back of a police car!  After all the paperwork for the police report and insurance (something fell off the back of Daddy’s car and the bumper is bent) Daddy called Mummy to let her know what happened.

Mummy freaked out a little.  She called my doctor and even though I seemed fine they wanted me to come in and get checked out just in case.  Especially since I don’t really respond the pain like normal kids do (just like Mummy!).  Daddy is sore but ok too.  He is getting checked by his doctor tomorrow.   Daddy brought me home before the appointment (we had about 40 minutes to kill) and showed Mummy my junior officer sticker then I had a snack and played with “my people” and the dog.  I was acting, walking, bending and playing just fine.

My doctor visit was pretty quick and uneventful.  The doctor listened to my chest and back and shined his light in my eyes.  Then he checked me over for bruises and discoloration.  I have a little scratch on the side of my neck from being pushed forward into my seatbelt and some very, very light bruises, but nothing to worry about.  Mummy and Daddy are going to watch me extra close for a few days and make sure I am not acting confused, lethargic or have any blood in my diapers.  I got a clean bill of health, plus another sticker 🙂

It’s been a while since I’ve posted and thought I’d catch everyone up a bit.

I have turned into a little chatter box lately and talk pretty much all the time.  I’m getting pretty consistent/insistent with getting my points across!  I tell Mummy what I want for dinner (usually “pee pee” which is my gross way of saying “pizza”), what I want to drink, what I want to play with (generally “my people!”), and I’m very polite too.  Mummy and Daddy are working with me to say “Yes, please” instead of “ya” and “No, thank you” instead of just “no.”  I’m getting good at it too!  I also always say “Excuse me” when I burp or toot (usually after I giggle first) and even remind Daddy to say “Excuse me” after he burps too.  I am also saying “Thank you, Dada” or “Thank you, Muma” instead of just “Thank you” so that is nice.  I still have to be reminded sometimes, but all it takes now is “what do you say?” and then I remember.  Mummy’s favorite though is that now I always say “I love you, Muma” when she tells me she love me.  Very sweet!

I also have some impressive new skills.  Mummy downloaded some free iPhone apps for me during car rides, diaper changes and generally any time I need a distraction.  My favorite game is a matching one.  There are 4-6 ‘cards’ (like the game ‘memory’) and you touch them one at a time to see the animal under it.  Then , you have to remember where the animal was and find the match.  I am really good at this and pretty quickly remember where the animals are to match them!  Mummy and Daddy are so impressed that I can remember and match so well!

My other impressive new skill is around letters.  Mummy, Daddy, Foo Foo and school all work with me on the alphabet but I showed Mummy just how much I am learning over the weekend.  We were watching Sesame Street and the letter “T” came on.  I got very excited and said “T, Thatcher!” Then, in pretty rapid successions, I said “T, two!” and “T, tooth!”  These were not the T words they were saying on TV either…I came up with them all by myself – WOW!!

Over the weekend I had my final gymnastics class of the session.  It was also Daddy’s 40th birthday!  That meant I got a medal!!  I was very proud to get to stand up on the block and get it in front of everyone – yay!!  It was a fun class too!  I love climbing and jumping and swinging.  I am getting to be quite the skilled balance beam walker!  I added a new “trick” to my beam walking by dipping down to my knees then standing back up…I made that up all by myself!  I still love doing somersaults and practice those at home all the time.  I can get over all by myself now…even if I do kind of roll to the side most of the time.  It’s still fun!

After my morning nap we all went to The Olive Garden for a birthday lunch for Daddy.  He wanted the soup, salad, and bread sticks.  I got to wear my Vandy sweatshirt and my new Detroit (some sports team that Mummy dont’ know…teh hate is navy with a white “D” is that helps anyone) ball cap that is just my size.  I love having a hat that matches Daddy.  Of course, since I have good manners I took my hat off to go into the restaurant!  We were waiting for our table and Foo Foo showed up – hooray!!  I sure do love my Foo Foo.  Apparently I talk in my sleep and at school when I was sleeping I said something about Foo Foo.  Pretty soon out table was ready.  I got to sit next to Daddy and Foo Foo. I enjoyed a lot of salad, bread sticks and had my own “pee pee” (aka pizza…I’m working on learning the “za” sound).  I did great at lunch and we all had a fun birthday lunch.

On Sunday I went with Mummy and Daddy to meet Miss Laura and Shelby and Miss Celia, Elena and Mr. Eric at the Runway Grill at the little local airport for brunch.  We got to see a bunch of airplanes – so much fun!  As soon as we saw an airplane we all started immediately asking for “more airplane?”  I ate a bunch too…almost 2 whole eggs and half of a giant pancake!  While the food part was fun and I enjoyed looking out the window, the best part was after brunch when we went outside to get a closer look at the planes.  It was awesome getting so close and Miss Shelby and I were literally jumping up and down with excitement.  Miss Laura took some photos and posted about it here (Mummy forgot to bring a camera).   I could have stayed there all day but it was pretty windy and cold so we had to head home.  We’ll be back there for sure though!

That afternoon Aunt Dia came over for Christmas #4 (the final one!).  We had so much fun playing – Dia is the coolest Aunt ever!  My favorite present was a mess-free finger painting set.  The paints are clear and only show up on the special paper.  I had a blast making two big paintings.  Just like I am a dainty dipper of foods, I am also a somewhat dainty finger painter.  I use only one finger. Mummy finally took my hand and smeared it all over the paper…I went back to using just one finger.  My paintings turned out perfect!  Once again, Mummy forgot to take any photos…I blame it on my little brother who is making Mummy very tired these days.  After more playing it was dinner time.  Dia stayed and watched me shovel in two giant plates of noodles with sauce!  When I was finally done eating we played peek-a-boo for a long time and turned ‘peek-a-boo’ into ‘ta-da!’ which I though was great!!  I sure do love being the center of attention 🙂

I think that about catches us up…I’ll try to get Mummy to take more photos again soon.

Mummy wanted to share…

Mummy has seen this a few times now and wanted to share it: Don’t Carpe Diem

I’m a Photographer!

My new favorite thing?  Taking photos…which I call “I smile! I smile!”  I am actually getting pretty good!

My People!

Ever since Mummy brought out her Little People from when she was little I’m in love!  I call for them first thing in the morning – “My People! My People!”  I would play with them all day if I could.  Sometimes I bring them all in to eat meals with me.  Here I am holding ALL of “my people” after lunch.  Just for fun there are also some photos of me playing in a toy box as well as me in my coat, scarf and hat before school this morning (I sure am handsome!!)

Fun at the Rec Center

Today was a holiday from school…unfortunately it was not a work holiday for Mummy.  So, Daddy took me to the Broomfield Rec Center to play (it’s free!!) so Mummy could get some work done.  I had a blast!!  I can climb all the way up to the BIG slide all by myself and I love sliding down.

I’m Back!

My charming self, that is 🙂  Mummy and Daddy are VERY happy that charming Thatcher has replaced tantrum Thatcher over the weekend.  I was great and even took 2 naps both Saturday and Sunday!  I slept through the night and had no big tantrums.  A few little fussies here and there but nothing past normal.  So, what changed?  We’ll never know for sure, but here are a few things that it could be/could have contributed:

  1. MY SLEEP ENVIRONMENT:  Mummy and Daddy removed all of the toys from my room (they only went in there recently).  I think I got confused about what my room was for – sleep or play??  I would throw fits going to bed because I wanted to play since I could see all of my toys right there (especially the little people “My people! My people!”).  I would also throw fits getting up because I didn’t want to get a diaper change and into clothes because, again, “I play?! I play!”  The change was pretty immediate once the toys went back downstairs. …now Daddy, it’s time to say “you were right!” to Mummy 😉  My room is now back to what it was: a place to sleep, and only sleep.  The only ‘distractions’ in there are books for story time and my stuffed animals.  Dark + white noise + routine – distractions = happy sleeping Thatcher!
  2. SLEEP:  I got enough sleep!!  I am apparently a complete and total mess without enough sleep.  All weekend I took both a morning and afternoon nap and still went to bed between 5 and 6 pm.  I also do better with a bedtime closer to 5 than 6.  6 is really my upper limit.  Getting good naps plus good night-time sleep cleared my night and early waking issues right up!  It also turned me back into my charming self 🙂
  3. DISTRACTION & HELPING:Lots and lots of distraction and letting me help…plus letting me take the lead a little on ‘toddler time.’  Things make take longer, but they happen nicer this way.  For example, I was getting very close to full-blown fit at bedtime and I wanted to play with my telephone on wheels instead of getting ready for bed.  Mummy used the telephone to distract me and made a game out of showing the telephone how to go pee pee on the potty (then the phone got a turn) and how to brush my teeth (then the phone got a brushing) then finally getting jammies on (the phone got a onsie on).  It took a little longer but the result was that I was happy as a clam ‘showing’ my phone how I got ready for bed 🙂  Distraction also worked really well on Sunday, laundry day, when I got to bring some of my own laundry downstairs by myself to help Mummy and Daddy (I was refusing to go downstairs for breakfast).  I helped put things in piles too.  I am becoming very helpful lately!  Win-win!
  4. DECISION MAKING & CHOICES:  I am certainly asserting my independence these days!  I am very clear on what I want (the YELLOW one!) and what I don’t want (the BLUE one!) and I do so much better when I can make (appropriate) choices by myself.  Mummy always gives me two choices and that pretty much works for me.  It used to be “Thatcher, do you want to get your coat on now?” and I’d just say “No” and make it as difficult as possible.  Now, Mummy wisely asks me “Thatcher, do you want to wear your blue coat or your black coat” (while holding them up).  I chose and happily put it on (always the blue one if you were wondering!).  Same thing with snacks…as I’m asking for a cookie, Mummy asks if I want (while holding them both out to me) “carrots or apples?”  Carrots, please! “Pee Pee in the potty first or tooth brushing first?”  and so on and so forth…  As long as I can make my own decision, I seem pretty pleased with everything 🙂

I am certain I’ll test Mummy and Daddy again, but for now, things are back to smooth sailing!

Here are some videos Daddy took of me at the park this weekend.  We went for a long walk to the park while Mummy stayed home with Nicholas.  He got a bad boo boo, in the form of a torn ACL, while scrambling and slipping on the kitchen floor going after a noodle I dropped (oops!!!).  More on that later…
