Week 34 (October 20-27): Working to Crawl, Reiki, Football with Daddy, and My 1st Cold

I love Daddy’s iPhone!  Here is a video of  me trying to eat it:

I’ve been making excellent progress toward crawling!!  I use my arms to pull myself forward and have started getting up on my knees and rocking a little.  Mummy thinks I’ll be crawling on all fours soon.  I am definitely very eager to get to things!!  It does make me very tired though and I’ve started taking the occasional third nap again.  Mummy likes this very much!

Look at me go!

On Saturday Mummy and I got a Reiki session!  It was my second time.  I had my first Reiki session when I was about 2 months old.  I liked it very much and was very still for it which was nice since I am becoming a little squirmy worm!  I also did some directing and put Susan’s hands where I wanted them.  The next day Mummy went to a Tibetan Singing Bowl workshop to become a sound healer (she is already a Reiki practitioner so I get lots of that at home too).  I went back with her to get her set of bowls and got to sit in on an extra lesson she got.  I love the bowls!

This weekend, Mummy went to afternoon tea with a bunch of other Mummies and I stayed home with the Daddies and babies.  Jax and Addision came over with their Daddies.  They were supposed to watch some football, but we took over the attention and Mummy thinks they may have gotten a little taste of just how time consuming we are, lol.

Jax is all over the place – very impressive!  So is Addy!!  She is only 1 day older than me but much smaller and more mobile.  I had a lot of fun with them and learned a thing or two…the next morning I really took off with this crawling thing!

The day after the football and afternoon tea, I started to get my first cold L  My nose was very runny and stuff at the same time.  I do NOT like when Mummy has to use the snot sucker to get the goop out of my nose!!  That night I had my first “bad” night since before I was 8 week old.  I was up at 11 pm, 12 am, 1 am, 2 am, 3 am, and 4 am until Mummy finally got me to sleep until 8:30 am.  I kept waking up when my nose was stuffed up and I tried to suck my thumb and couldn’t breath.  I’ve had lots of steam baths (bath in Mummy and Daddy’s bathroom in the tub while the separate shower steamed things up).  I was very proud to be in such a huge tub!  I’ve had an off and on low temp (<100) but only had that one bad night.  Mummy and Daddy turned the humidifier in my room to the warm setting and turned up the steam.  They also got a plug in kids vaporizer that makes the room smell funny…it does help me sleep though.  I am starting to feel better, but I am not 100% yet.  Neither is Mummy (she gave me her cold!).

Mummy did a very bad job of taking pictures this week.  It could be because we were both sick so I’ll let it slide…this time 😉

Week 33 (October 13-20): The Mall, Watching a Marathon, and the Pumpkin Patch

I am still loving my cookies and am very happy that Mummy usually gives me one when she is getting my dinner ready.  Here are two videos of me eating my cookie before dinner.  I look like I’m naked and only wearing a bib, but I do have a diaper on.  I’d just wet through my outfit and it was dinner time so Mummy decided to feed me like this.  In one of the videos I am showing off my new(ish) Bumbo scootching skills!

Over the weekend, I went to the mall with Mummy.  She wanted to get out of the house for a while and had some errands to run.  I had taken a really short 45 min morning nap so was already tired.  I rode around in my BOB stroller and showed Mummy a new trick!  I can sit up and hang onto the infant adapter bars to keep myself that way!  usually I just sit there and veg, but when I can sit up, I am totally engaged, smiling at people and laughing.  It’s great fun!!!  We walked all over the place and there was so much to look at…I especially liked the Build a Bear Workshop and the Disney Store.  Just before lunch, Mummy took me to the play area.  While I still can’t crawl, I had a lot of fun sitting and playing with the toys on the wall and also standing and hanging onto the toys in the floor that the big kids can play on, climb and slide down.  The thing I was the most interested in though were all those big kids and watching how fast they move!  I want to do that!!  I also met a nice little boy who was a littler smaller than me despite being 12 months old.  He could crawl and pull up and everything.  We held hands and patted each other and played together at the wall toys.  I think I’d like to go back there again!  I got to have lunch at the food court and had my cereal in a high-chair.  After lunch I was so tired, but Mummy was not done yet.  I fussed in the BOB so I got to hang with Mummy in the Ergo…I fell asleep almost immediately!  Mummy was able to get me from the Ergo back into the fully reclined BOB and I snoozed for about 30 min.  Then I woke up, relaxed in the BOB for a while and got fussy again toward the very end and Mummy put me back in the Ergo and I fell asleep again.  Mummy said the Ergo was a lifesaver today!

I got to watch  my first marathon & 1/2 marathon this week!  My friend Miss Shelby’s Mom ran the 1/2 marathon…just 7 months after having a baby!!  Very impressive!  Mummy bundled me all up in my new bear hat and mittens.  I was confused when my hands were in the mittens and kept looking at them trying to find my fingers.  Mummy parked far away from the finish so we could run to the finish.  I loved looking around at all the people and dogs.  We finally found Laura at the finish – she did a GREAT job!!!  We went to Peet’s Coffee after then sat in lobby of the Sheraton and Mummy fed me so I could happily nap in the car.  After I finished I played for a little bit while Mummy and Laura chatted.  Laura let me touch her finishers medal and I really loved it.  Maybe one day I’ll get one too!

I got to go to my very first pumpkin patch this weekend!  Even though I don’t quite understand Halloween yet, I still had fun.  We went with the Mintos which is always a lot of fun and I like Jax.  I hope I can be as good a mover as Jax one day!  I helped Mummy and Daddy pick out four pumpkins.  After we got the pumpkins we went to take more photos and to look at animals.  There were ducks, bunnies, big pigs, little pigs, lambs and a baby cow.  Daddy says that we get to carve one of the pumpkins this week or weekend.  I have no idea what that means but I’m excited!

I’ve started greeting Mummy and Daddy int he morning and after naps by reaching my little hands through the crib slats while leaning on the bumper.  It is very cute!  While I have not started pulling myself all the way up yet Mummy thinks it will happen sooner than she is ready for!  She does help me get to standing so I can hold onto the crib from standing – I think this is pretty neat!!

I now LOVE “playing” with the baby in the mirror!

I got a cool new toy today!  A blue rocking puppy!!  At first I wasn’t too sure what it was but after Mummy showed me I loved having a new place to sit.  I should be able to use this toy for years to come – YAY!

Week 32 (October 6-13): Cookies, a Cookout, and Crawling (almost)

I had a great week this week…then again, I usually have a great week so no big surprises there.  I said “Hi” to Nana Foo Foo and she was very excited!!  Mummy is glad that more people than just her have heard me talking so people will believe her now since I’m ridiculously young to be talking.  Then again, Mummy talked when she was only seven and a half months so I guess it runs in the family!  We’re not sure when Daddy started talking.

My Daddy graduated from college!!!  Hooray Daddy!!!  To celebrate we had a chili cookout with lots of friends over.  Mummy made turkey white bean chili and vegetarian chili and Daddy made brats on the grill.  Mummy also made chocolate chip cookies and I got to try my very first cookie – YUMMY!!

There were so many babies and I got to play with all of my friends.  Some of them are excellent movers!!  It seems like Miss Shelby and I are about on the same page without crawling.  We’ve got the pieces and parts, but just have quite put it all together yet.   I can get up on my knees, push backwards and spin and roll in any direction.  At the end of this week I have just started wanting to get places.  I am especially interested in getting to and picking at my favorite bears on the quilt that my Great-Nana T (Mummy’s Nana) made for me.  Mummy thinks I will be crawling very soon, or at least army crawling.

Since I’ve been so very interested in new foods and things I can chew, Mummy finally broke down and got me some snacks that she did not make.  She got me Gerber puffs, which I love, but can’t quite get in my mouth on my own yet.  I also got Gerber Biter Biscuits which, to Mummy and Foo Foo’s surprise I was able to bite, chew and eat in its entirely pretty quickly!  So, Mummy got me some Earth’s Best Teething Biscuits on Tara’s advice that they are too hard to actually bike pieces off of.  She warned Mummy they are messy, but she got them anyway.  I LOVE them and yes, they are very messy, but no, I cannot take a bite.  They are a great distraction when Mummy needs to get my food ready and I am already hungry.

Speaking of food, I have decided that for my afternoon bottle, I only want it if I can do it myself.  I prefer to lounge in my boppy while drinking…the gravity helps me hold it when it is full.  I am quite proud of myself for being able to do this on my own!

I have also gone with Mummy on a few runs this week in the BOB.  I usually enjoy it and just chill out and watch the world go by.  This week, a few dogs barked as we ran by (not very fast…pick it up Mummy!!) and I cried.  Apparently I don’t like dogs barking this week.  It’s never bothered me before and Mummy hopes it is just temporary.

Here are some photos of this week.  Next week I’ll have photos of me at the pumpkin patch!

Week 31 (September 29 – October 6): 7 Months, Bumper Escape, Playdate, Bleeding Boo Boo, and MY FIRST WORDS!!

Well folks, this was a pretty exciting week!  I started the week by showing Mummy and Daddy how I can untie and pull of the bumper in my crib.  I only do it when I’m awake and no body has come to get me.  Mummy explained that this happens sometimes because I never, ever cry in my crib so unless they are watching the video monitor very closely, nobody knows when I wake up.  I am very proud of myself when I get the bumper off!  Mummy is leaving it on, just tied better, because I like to sleep leaning against it like a pillow and also smoosh my head against it and prop my feet up on it.  Since I can’t have real pillows yet, it’s the best Mummy and Daddy can do.

I had a fun playdate this week and was awake for almost the whole time – a first!  Celia brough Miss Elena over so our Mummys could have lunch and catch up.  Elena is much smaller than me but can crawl and pull up and everything!  I decided that every toy Elena was playing with was the toy I wanted too.  I made her cry when I took a toy away.  Mummy was not happy with me.  She said that I need to share and that it is never ok to make a girl cry!  Elena has very pretty hair and I kept trying to pet her like I pet Nicholas…at least I was gentle and didn’t make her cry doing this!

The one yucky part of my week was really only yucky for Mummy.  She was clipping my nails, which get so long and I scratch myself with them.  I jerked and Mummy accidentally snipped the tip of my thumb 😦  It bled and bled and Mummy freaked out a little trying to stop it and find a little band-aid.  I did not notice at all.  No crying, no fussy face, nothing.  Zero reaction at all.  Mummy is now a little worried that I may have inherited her tolerance for pain…not as fun as it sounds.  The only thing I did notice, however, was the bright blue crayon band-aid that Mummy put on my thumb.  I thought that was just the coolest!!

So, here is the super-duper exciting, big, huge milestone news — I said my FIRST WORD!!!  Really!!  On October 3, my 7 month birthday, Mummy was walking toward me in my exersaucer and said “Hi Thatcher!” and I looked up and said “Hi.”  Seriously!!!  Then I said it a few more times to Mummy.  After about 20 minutes of Mummy saying “Hi Thatcher, hello!”  I said “Hello.”  Mummy was pretty stunned!!  My “Hi” is pretty perfect, but my “Hello” sounds a little more like “Hella” though I use it in perfect context.  I have never made these sounds as babbles before, ever.  The next day I told Daddy “Hi.”  I never use it incorrectly or randomly.  Mummy and Daddy have deemed me a genius!

Here are some photos of my week…aren’t I getting super handsome?  Mummy and Daddy sure think so 🙂
