Week 25 (August 18-25): New Foods, a New Carseat, Petting Zoo, and a Funeral

Spinach...not too sure about this one!

I keep getting new foods to try, and I love it all!!  The first new food this week was apples.  Mummy made them from Fuji apples and they were so yummy that Mummy kept taking bites to ‘show me how good they are.’  Mummy, I know, now please stop eating my apples!  The next new food was spinach.  While I was NOT a fan of the texture, I did like the taste just fine.  After the initial shock of the texture (it was not smooth and velvety like the other stuff) I did eat more than 3 ounces on my first try.  The next night, Mummy mixed the spinach into my rice cereal and I liked that a lot!

I still prefer food over my bottle now, but I have had a few nights in a row of a 7-9 ounce bottle which made Mummy very happy!  She was getting nervous that I would get dehydrated without more bottle.  She’s been thinning my cereal and foods as much as she can (not so think it doesn’t sit nicely ona  spoon though) and I am still wetting plenty of diapers so I’m all good.  The food does make me poop a LOT though!!!  Seriously, a LOT…like, every diaper change almost!

This week I’ve gotten much, much better at sitting up on my own.  I can now ‘catch’ myself when I start to tip backwards, though I can still topple to a side and am learning that I can’t look behind me while sitting without topping over.  I love to play with toys while sitting, or standing, and don’t like just laying down much anymore unless I’m pretty tired.  When I’m tired, laying down is just fine and I pass the time working on getting my delicious toes into my mouth.  I’m pretty good at that!

My Big Boy Carseat - Britax Boulevard 70

Mummy realized that I was getting pretty big (29 inches and 21 lbs at last unofficial measure…next official measure is September 3) and another Mommy mentioned needing a new car seat for her baby.  Turned out that I am about over the weight limit for one of my infant seats (the Chico one) and nearing the height limit for the other one (Graco)!!  She did her research and learned that Britax are the safest car seats.  She got me a brand new Britax Boulevard 70 at Babies R Us.  She even got it for 20% off because a lovely woman who was also shopping for car seats gave Mummy a coupon!!!

I am getting so big that I am growing out of all of my clothes!!  I am so tall that I am now needing TWELVE month clothes!  They are pretty big in general, but the length is good, so I guess that’s what I’ll wear for a while.  Here are some of my twelve month outfits.

Over the weekend, Mummy and Daddy took me to a petting zoo!  It was not a very big one, but it was still neat.  I got to pet a bunny, a baby cow, and I even got to sit on a pony!  Daddy took photos on his iPhone and sent them to Mummy since she forgot her camera.

The last thing of the week was very sad.  Our sweet, wonderful, 80 year old neighbor, Bob, passed away last week.  He was so delightful and Mummy, Daddy, Nicholas, and I just loved him and his lovely wife Wanda.  We went to the funeral this morning.  Mummy cried.  I slept some and played very quietly for the whole thing.  At the end, I even hugged Wanda and shook hands with all of the grandchildren – literally!  I hope to not have to go to any more funerals for a very, very long time!!  We’re going to be visiting Wanda a lot more and I’m very happy about that.

Week 24 (August 11-18): Sweet Potatoes, Bananas, and Peas, Oh My!

Yummy Sweet Potatoes!

I tried sweet potatoes this week!!  I think Mummy was hoping for a bit more of a reaction, but I acted like I’d been eating them forever.  Mummy used her Especially for Baby Food Processor to blend up the sweet potato she cooked for me.  It was super smooth and perfect for me!  Mummy says I’ll get to have more potatoes at lunch every day now!!  We’ll stick with sweet potatoes for about 4 days then try something new.  Bananas are probably up next.  Every 4 days I’ll get to try something new – hooray!

After sweet potatoes for 3 days Mummy gave me Bananas…LOVES those too!  Mummy messed up and made them a little too thin, but that’s ok because she mixed it into my rice cereal and that was fantastic!!!  So good, in fact, that I refused to drink my next bottle and barely had any from the last one.  After another big bowl of rice cereal with bananas, Mummy tried to give me my bedtime bottle.  Nope!  Didn’t want it.  They put me down to sleep and I rolled around fussed then started screaming.  Mummy came up and I took 2.5 oz of my bottle and fell asleep.  Geesh!  Oh, and the reason there are not photos of my trying bananas is that I loved them so much that I didn’t let ANY get on my face…I wanted every last little bit in my mouth!

I loved my peas!

Up next was PEAS!  Yummy – I love my peas!!  Mummy and Daddy are beginning to wonder if there will be anything I don’t like.  So far, everything that has been in my mouth, medicine included, I love. Here is a photo of my trying peas for the first time.

This week has been a little rough in the teething department.  One night I was hurting so much that I couldn’t get to sleep and was crying and crying.  This was after I got Tylenol and orajel!  Mummy was holding me and had Daddy go get my favorite ice teether.  I chomped down, stopped crying and fell asleep with the ice ring in my mouth and also had a death grip on it with my hand too.  Mummy pried it out and I slept all night.  Boo teething!!!

I’ve been getting to go on my stroller rides with Mummy which I love!  She’s working very hard to lose weight and runs a lot.  I am usually asleep by the time we get home but it’s still nice to get out for some fresh air and to see all the new sights and hear all the new sounds.  One day, I’ll stay awake for the whole thing 🙂

Kisses!

I’ve begun really noticing Nicholas this week.  I love to look at him and pet him.  He gives me lots and lots of kisses…even when I accidently bop him in the face.  He’s a very good boy – like me!

This week, Mummy worked very, very hard to get all of my baby photos into albums!  She also got my baby book up to date and got lots of photos into frames and up all over the house.  Now I get to see me everywhere!!  Mummy’s friend Tara gave me a sweet, soft photo album of my very own when I was still very little.  Mummy was very happy to finally get some photos in there for me!  I LOVE looking at my photo book!

Mummy and Daddy got me a new play area – an Evenflo Exersaucer!  I am getting a lot more active with my play and they wanted to make sure I didn’t get bored.  So far, I LOVE it!

Week 23 (August 4-11): 4 Month Photos, Marathon Naps, Another Cookout, and Splashing in the Tub

We got the 4 month photos back!  You can see them here: https://growingupthatcher.wordpress.com/watch-thatcher-grow/4-month-photos/

We decided to have at least one photo from every shoot be with a single object so we could see how he’s growing.  Here is his newborn shot and 4 month shot with his puppy:

2 Weeks

4 Months

I started off the week taking some marathon, 3 hour naps like I used to when I was younger.  For quite some time I’d weaned back to hour, maybe two, hour long naps.  Suddenly I’m back to being the Nap Master!  Could I be going through another growth spurt??  This week I’ve taken THREE, three-hour plus naps…haven’t done that in quite some time.  I’ve also changes a lot of my ‘sleep signals.’  I used to yawn and that meant I was tired.  Now, I rub my eyes when I’m SUPER tired, or I snuggle in when you hold me, or, Mummy’s favorite, I giggle at nothing.  I do laugh a lot, but when I’m tired it’s a new, slap-happy giggle out of nowhere.  It’s very cute.  Here’s my Bumbo lean that is also a new sleep signal:

My sleepy lean...

Here is a video Mummy took of me giggling before bed:

Mummy and Daddy had another cookout – there were tons of babies and it was so much fun!!  There was Elena, Jax, Connor, Teagan, Emma, Harrison, and Sean.  Toys were everywhere and I did some really great interacting and ‘talking’ to Jax.  Unfortunately, Mummy’s camera wouldn’t turn on so there are no photos of the event (she put the freshly charged battery back in backwards!!).  Next time…

Before bed, I got to take a fun bath in my duck tub.  Mummy put all my toys in it and I splashed and splashed so much that Mummy is going to need a raincoat for future baths.  Mostly when I was splashing, I was just slapping at my legs, but it was pretty cute.  I sure am growing up fast!  Here I am splashing in the tub!

This week, I showed Mummy that she shouldn’t put the Bumbo on the counter anymore unless she is 2 inches away from me…here’s what I did:

Look at me reaching for the electrical socket on the wall behind me!

I’ve been moved down to my Tripp Trapp chair for most of my cereal feedings, though sometimes the morning  cereal is still in the Bumbo.  I love to sit in my Tripp Trapp when Mummy, Daddy or Foo Foo are eating at the table.  I play with my toys and love to throw them onto the floor for everyone to pick up for me 🙂  I am also a lot more interested in watching people eat and drink.   I am especially interested in drinking water from a glass.  A few times I’ve flapped my arms until Mummy or Foo Foo gets me a glass and lets me kind of lick the rim.  I have no idea how this drinking from a glass thing works yet, but one day I’ll figure it out!  Since I am getting better at sitting up, I like to be either sitting up (with a little help) or standing in my jumper a lot more than my playmat.  While I haven’t outgrown it yet, I am liking to get out and explore more than the mat offers.  One of my favorite places is when Mummy pulls my jumper into the kitchen and I can play and watch her cook or clean or eat.  Here’s what I’m talking about:

While I have been doing a pretty good job not scratching up my face at night, I did have another ‘incident’ despite Mummy keeping my nails VERY short and filed.  Really, she cuts and files them every TWO days!!  Here are the latest scratches…luckily they weren’t deep so they were better in a day:

See all my little scratches...I did that!

Week 22 (July 28 – August 4): Rolling Over, Sitting Up, and Mummy’s Hip Boo Boo

I think I’m going through some sort of “transition.”  There have been a few days when I will not go down for a nap without being put to sleep with a bottle, upstairs, in my sleep sack, being rocked in a dim room in my glider.  Then I need to be put down on my side…I will cry if you dare put me on my back or even on the wrong side!  I am usually great and only require being put in the crib…wide awake is fine, I’m out like a light in a few seconds!  Mummy thinks I am growing and teething and just not feeling great about it all.

On the night Mummy has her French class and Daddy puts me to bed, I was extra challenging!!  Mummy forgot to tell Daddy that I only wanted to be put down, asleep on my side.  Daddy kept putting me on my back and I’d scream, he’d pick me up, rock me to sleep then the whole thing started over.  He started my bedtime at 6:30 and when Mummy finally got hime at 8:30, I was asleep in Daddy’s arms, but he was afraid to put me down again.  Mummy picked me up, put my sleep sack back on (I did cry for this…I had to be on my back), then I fell immediatly back to sleep on her shoulder and she put me down a few seconds later, on my side.  I slept until 8 am the next morning.  Daddy got pretty frustrated at this.  Sometimes a boy just wants his Mummy.

Most of the rest of the days I slept great, per usual.  My naps are starting to get a bit shorter and I am awake and playing longer stretches during the day, especially the last stretch before bed!  I am still gobbling up my cereal and being a sweet boy.  Even though they seem boring, I enjoy simple outings to the grocery store, Target, or just a quick stroll around the neighborhood with Nana Foo Foo.  I also particularly liked my first trip to the liquor store for wine with Mummy – I loved looking at all the pretty bottles!

Mummy has had a lot of hip pain since I was born and she learned this week, after some doctor trips and an MRI (She had to have contrast dye injected directly into her hip joint – OUCH!!!!), that she has to have surgery to repair a labral tear (hip joint) – hip athroscopy.  She is probably going to get the surgery this fall in Vail, where the best doctor in the country for this new, very specific and highly specialized surgery, is.  Apparently her hips were dislocated, causing the tears, when her legs were pulled way back when she was pushing me out (sorry Mummy!).  While only the tear in her left hip has been confirmed, she has the exact same pain in her right hip, so is 99.9% sure she’ll need to get surgery for that hip too…though not at the same time!!

I finally ROLLED OVER again!!!  This time from my tummy to my back and I did it FOUR times!!  Mummy caught my second roll on camera…though I got tired by the time Mummy and Daddy got the video camera 😦

Now that I’ve rolled over, I am now playing with toys while on my tummy! I used to just hate tummy time but I am enjoying it more and more- finally!! I am also getting pretty close to sitting up. I still need some help to keep from toppling over, but I am getting a lot better at it!! So good that Mummy finally pulled out my big boy duck tub!! It’s about time – I am longer than the baby tub now!!
Mummy had some friend over for dinner and I got to play with Miss Shelby and Miss Elena.  I watched Elena sit up and for the first time ever, I SAT UP- with NO help!!  Mummy thinks I was just trying to show off for the pretty girls.  Here is a photo of me sitting up and also of me with the ladies.  By the way, Mummy should post some of my 4 month photo shoot photos next week, so be sure to check back next Wednesday!
One last thing…Mummy has joined a 90 day weight loss challenge at her gym (Lifetime Fitness).  She started a blog to chronicle the journey.  Cheer her on for me! http://loseitin90days.blogspot.com/
